The Miners path
Grading: Difficult
Time: 3 hours to the summit for a reasonably fit person - allow 1.5 - 2 hours for the descent
The miners track starts from the left side of the car park at Pen-y-pass. Go through the wooden gate at follow the path which contours round to the right. This section of the path is reasonably level and after about .5 of an hour magnificent views of Snowdon and Lliwedd appear in front of you. After one hour you should be approaching the causway accross Llyn Llydaw. from here the path continues along the lake side passing the remains of an old boiler room before it steepens on the approach to llyn Glaslyn.

Again follow the side of the lake until you reach some old copper mines and the start of the steps which connects the minners path to the PYG track. About 1.5 hours from the car park. Climb the steps to a finger post about .5 hours. In winter care should be taken as there could be ice on these steps. The finger post marks the junction with the PYG track which can now followed to the summit or you can descend back to the car park at Pen-y-pass via the PYG track about 2 hours from this point.

To continue upwards to the summit follow this section of the PYG track which steepens and in winter can be very icy. It can be difficult at this point to find the correct path and care should be taken. In winter conditions there may well be snow from this point onwards and crampons may be required.

The final section ahead is well marked though and should be easily visible as it zig zags to the top finger post which marks the junction with the Llanberis path. Follow this to the summit cairn and Hafod Eryri for refreshments.

You can return by the same route or choose to follow the Llanberis path down from the summit.
