Hafod Eryri - Snowdon's summit cafe

At last the long awaited replacement for what HRH the prince of Wales called "The highest slum in Great Britain" has opened. The media has departed and now the public can enjoy their meals while admiring the fantastic scenery from the top of Snowdon in "Hafod Eryri" the highest restaurant in the U.K. One noticeable absents from the opening ceremony was HRH the prince of Wales whose comments instigated the building of the new restaurant.

Built from Welsh granite, Hafod Eryri site just below the summit cairn and enjoys a spectacular panorama, with views of the mountains and the lakes to the south of Snowdon. The interior wall are Welsh oak and the flooring is welsh granite etched with useful pieces of information about the mountain.

This is a fantastic building situated in arguably the most dramatic location of the British Isles and worthy of the effort to reach the summit either by walking from Llanberis or on one of the trains from Snowdon mountain railway which pulls alongside the new summit platform. From here there is an entrance to Hafod Eryri where passengers are now able to enjoy their time on the mountain and relax amid their surroundings and perhaps even enjoy a glass of beer.

For those who have used their own steam to reach the summit this is a place to relax, enjoy some food and perhaps buy the "I climbed Snowdon" T shirt before setting of on the return journey back to Llanberis.
